Insurance Marketing Agencies
Founded in 1924, Insurance Marketing Agencies [IMA] is one of the largest independent insurance brokerage firms in New England. The company takes a comprehensive approach to the risk management process serving all types of commercial clients.
IMA also provides Group benefit programs, personal insurance and life products.
Business Challenge:
In 2008 faced with the retirement of some senior staff and the added complexity of the ever changing human resources compliance landscape, IMA President Peter Herman sought out Karen Slein to absorb HR responsibilities for his growing, family-owned insurance agency.
HR Deliverables
- Established a strong foundation in HR best practices by writing job descriptions, updating an employee manual and adopting a systematic approach for compliance matters.
- Using Caliper, Karen streamlined IMA’s recruiting process and today helps hiring managers select and hire right fit job candidates.
- Established an internship program to help IMA open doors to younger workers.
- IMA’s go-to specialist to lead and manage HR audits.
- Works on site whenever needed to provide ongoing organization, project management support and general HR expertise to President Peter Herman and his staff.
On Karen Slein:
“Whether on-site or working virtually, Karen works tirelessly to follow through on the HR issues that come up at IMA.”
“Karen comfortably works with IMA managers and associates at all levels of the organization; she enthusiastically attacks whatever she is working on to create value.”
“Karen enhances the culture of IMA in so many ways; she takes a personal approach to understanding what we’re about and keeps us current by introducing new ideas that move us forward.”
Peter H. Herman, President
Insurance Marketing Agencies, Inc
“Karen Slein’s experience in talent recruitment is deep and wide; she’s helped us fill positions ranging from entry level to senior management.”
“Karen was instrumental in building an Internship Program for IMA; she did everything from attend college fairs where she could meet students interested in sales internships to brainstorming with our staff to set the game plan for how to deliver both value to IMA and a great internship experience for the students. These school partnerships are a terrific initiative that helps us build industry relationships and fill our pipeline with top talent for both the short and long term.”
